Andrew has been gone since Wednesday on a mission trip to the Arizona/Mexico border. He won’t be back until Tuesday night, and we REALLY miss him!!! I have had a lot of help so far, making it easier and the time to pass much quicker. A dear, sweet soul from our new church sent over pizza Wednesday evening, which was a huge help, and the kids and I had a pizza and movie night! We watched Toy Story 3! 🙂 I always want to cry at the end of that movie when Andy goes off to college! I imagine I’ll be like the mom in that movie about fourteen years from now. 🙂
My parents were also able to come and spend a couple days with us this weekend! You are probably getting tired of me saying this, but I’m so grateful to be living closer to home! It’s been over ten years since we lived this close to our families! I love getting to spend more time with them. Friday we went to the Memphis Zoo! We all love the zoo, both David and my Dad in particular. They share a particular fondness for animals. David can talk all day about snakes, insects, comodo dragons, scorpions, jelly fish, squid, octopuses,… you get the idea. I love that the zoo allows you to take your own picnic lunch! We packed sandwiches, chips, fruit, and drinks all in a cooler bag with ice packs, and enjoyed a picnic lunch at the zoo! It allowed us to stay longer and enjoy more of the zoo. (We hit the herpetarium at the time they were about to do the keeper chat. Guess who had to sit on the front row to see all the snakes!? That’s right, David and my Dad! Guess who sat in the very back!? Yes, my mother, Emma and I! 🙂 )
In a previous blog I told you about our patio table and chairs, and a bench/chair we acquired from family. Well, I spray painted the patio table and chairs, and my mother reupholstered them for me. We picked out a picnic checkered material for the chairs (they were like a pickle green color). It is so cute!!! I love it, and it looks like a brand new set!
The bench in the play room also turned out really cute! My dad cut plywood for the bottoms, and my mom cut the foam, material, and put it all together! Thanks Dad and Mom!!
Someone else is liking her new bench too!
We missed Andrew today, and it felt a little odd going to church and him not being there. However, I did get a chance to catch up with Rev. Dr. Michelle, my old boss from Wesley and clergy family friend! She filled in for Andrew today and then she and her family came over for lunch! I wish I could brag about the lunch I fixed for everyone, but it was kind of rushed because the kids were getting tired and cranky. The company was the best part! Also, I haven’t been able to find a pulled pork recipe that I love yet. The pork was tender and juicy, but the flavor I’m looking for just wasn’t quite there. I’m looking for more of a deep spicey bbq flavor, and all the ones I’ve tried so far have been more sweet and vinegary. (Is vinegary a word? It is now!) If you have a pulled pork recipe you love please share it with me! I would love to try it!
