What’s In A Name? Sunday, August 19, 2018

When Andrew and I were talking about starting a family a few years back we decided we wanted to use family names for our children. (I think I’ve mentioned before how sentimental we are! 🙂 )Later, we also picked out both a girl and boy name when we were expecting our first. David Patrick is named after both our Dads, and Emma Sue is named after both our mothers. When we found out we were expecting our third, choosing a name became a little bit more difficult. There are lots of great names in our families, and choosing between them…, well, let’s just say it took us longer to come to an agreement! We sat down and made a list of all the male names on both sides of our families (I went a little crazy and looked up the meanings of every name, and Andrew had to make sure the initials were appropriate 🙂 ), and we finally have a name for our sweet little boy! Samuel James Kjorlaug!!! Isn’t it a beautiful name?! We hope he’s proud of it when he’s older. 🙂

In other baby news, I have also picked out the theme for Samuel’s nursery! David actually helped me decide on the final theme too (It was between elephants, and Dr. Seuss)! We are going to do One Fish, Two Fish, New Fish, Blue Fish, which is a play off of Dr. Seuss’s One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish book! 20180804_163016

It’s one of those nursery in a bag sets. It’s going to be a while before it’s done because we have to paint, lay carpet, put furniture together, etc. I’ll definitely share pictures with you once the nursery is finished!  David’s nursery room was done in Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and Emma’s nursery room is Lady Bugs. I was keeping with the bug/book theme in that there is a series of Books called Ladybug Girl by David Soman and Jacky Davis. So I am happy that David helped me decide on the Dr. Seuss book theme. I am so excited!!

I have not had any weird pregnancy cravings, however, I have one enormous appetite and sweet tooth! I have a sweet tooth anyway, even under normal conditions, I just usually have more self control! The other day I was at the store and bought one of those frozen hershey chocolate pies! I love those things!!! However, normally I would talk myself out of buying it. Instead I just bought that pie, brought it home, and a few days later it is ALL GONE! 20180816_203137

The other night, (before I bought that pie) I was craving something sweet. I made Ree Drummond’s cake in a mug recipe. Find the recipe Here! I have to say that this dessert was awesome! It may be the best recipe yet! For a couple reasons, one, it was easy to mix together and ready in ninety seconds. Two, It’s chocolate cake! I took the picture like this so you could see the cake in the mug, but as soon as I finished with the picture I put a big ol’ scoop of vanilla ice cream on top! 🙂

I have been trying to eat healthy things too! We made a grilled salmon recipe the other night that I am very excited to share with you! The flavor was spectacular! Ina Garten’s Asian grilled Salmon. The recipe calls for dijon mustard, soy sauce, olive oil, and minced garlic, all pantry ingredients! The only thing we did different from the recipe was we used cedar planks to grill the fish on. (this also means you don’t flip the fish halfway through cooking, you just let cook skin side down.) This recipe is definitely a keeper!

I took the kids to the zoo on Friday, and we had a great time! We enjoyed watching the bears eat their lunch! Aren’t they cute! 🙂 20180817_130627

Emma enjoyed the train ride, and David always wants to play in the water fountains!

It’s hard to believe that this is the middle of August, and all the kiddos are starting school!! Where does time go? Even though David starts preschool later this week and Emma will be attending the parents day out program in September, we will still be having some summer fun!
