David had a great time celebrating Dr. Seuss week at school. He brought home some of his art work from the week on Friday, and his teacher posted pictures of their week at school.
The two pictures on the right are pictures I took of his art works. His coloring has really improved this year. I can’t believe how big he is getting!
David and I made a chocolate sheet cake Saturday. This is a really great cake! It is easy to make, and taste almost like brownies with frosting on top! You can find the recipe here!
Saturday evening Andrew smoked ribs for dinner. I bought Andrew a smoker for his birthday back in July. Ribs are his speacialty! He does an amazing job! They are so tender and have a great flavor. I made the sides to go with them. I cooked fried potatoes and baked beans. I would like to share my baked bean recipe with you. I consider this a family recipe because I learned it from my mom who learned it from by grandpa.
Start by chopping up half an onion and two to three slices of bacon. Cook the bacon and onions until the bacon is cooked and crispy. Pour in two cans of pork and beans. Then add about a 1/4 cup of maple syrup, 1/4 cup of brown sugar, 1 to 2 tbl spoons of prepared mustard. I rarely measure any of these ingredients, so feel free to adjust them to your taste. These baked beans should be sweet and tasty!
Today has been a good, relaxing Sunday! Andrew and Emma took a nap. I snapped a picture of Emma asleep in her crib this afternoon. She’s so sweet! It was time for her to wake up, and so I opened her door so she would begin to stir.
David was supposed to take a nap, but he decided to play instead. After some time in his room I let him come out and play. Yes, those are baskets of laundry in the picture. The clothes are clean and folded! I put them away later this afternoon. 🙂
I did not take a nap this afternoon. Instead, I planned out our menu for this week, and thought about a garden for this spring. I have done some gardening in the past, but I want to do it differently this summer. I did some research on raised gardens, etc. I want to try doing some raised beds. I’ll keep you posted when the time comes to plant!
Here is our menu for the week!

David loves monsters and “scary” movies. I introduced him to the old 1958 Blob movie. The opening theme song of that movie is stuck in my head… 🙂 David loved the movie, and the blob is all he has talked about this weekend. We’ve watched it two or three times in the last forty eight hours.
Scary movie faces!
This is of course NOT how I would look if I were watching something that I was truly scared by! 🙂 Instead I would be curled up on the couch with a blanket and a pillow, covering my face! 🙂
